The introduction of the corporate manslaughter act is forcing more UK companies to scrutinise what health and safety measures they have in place for drivers, it has been claimed.

Speaking at the Brake gala dinner, Aidan Rowsome, vice president of GreenRoad technologies, insisted that the new legislation had succeeded in placing greater onus on corporations to combat workplace accidents.

"Since the introduction of the new corporate manslaughter laws, many more businesses are taking driver safety more seriously," he asserted.

The industry expert made his comments after GreenRoad technologies received a Fleet Safety Product Award in recognition of its achievements at cutting down on commercial fleet accidents.

According to the company, its Safety Centre product helps clients reduce accidents by 54 per cent on average, as well as lowering fuel consumption by between seven and ten per cent.

The Health and Safety Executive estimates that one-third of all road traffic accidents involve a driver who is at work.
