Trimble Mobile Resource Management has received industry recognition for its GPS vehicle tracking system.

The award relates to the company's DriveSafe solution, which allows fleet managers to closely monitor the behaviour and location of their drivers, thereby making it easier to identify potential areas of concern.

Explaining its decision to award Trimble the accolade, the Institute of Transport Management praised DriveSafe's in-depth tracking features which enable more effective mobile management.

These include the monitoring of key variables such as acceleration of vehicles during turn, start and stop manoeuvres, as well as average travelling speeds and deceleration rates when braking.

Trimble spokesman Andrew Yeoman commented: "This award represents a fantastic endorsement of Trimble MRM’s DriveSafe solution.

"Driver and vehicle safety are major issues facing fleet managers and we are delighted that our product has been recognised as an important tool for detecting and helping to correct poor driving behaviour."

He added that recent research has shown that firms which invest in driver training and behaviour initiatives will reduce fuel consumption levels by an average of seven per cent.
